The Cape Hatteras Motel has 33 rooms, including oceanfront and soundside rooms. The building that houses The Atlantic Inn has been serving Hatteras village’s visitors since 1928. A beautiful example of classic coastal shingle-style architecture, the inn was severely damaged in Hurricane. On the National Register of Historic Places, this landmark, originally called Atlantic View Hotel, was the first lodging on Hatteras Island and was frequented by sportsmen who came to the island to fish and hunt. Highway 12, a short walk from the ocean, on the north end of Hatteras village. This is a great place to hold weddings or special events. Several decks and indoor and outdoor sitting areas make for nice places to relax on-site. A full homemade breakfast is included and is offered in the main lounge/dining area, on the front porch or on the back deck. Each of the 10 rooms and suites is decorated in individual style and equipped with a private bath, a TV, WiFi, a Keurig coffeemaker and a refrigerator. Just a five-minute walk from the ocean, it's a wonderful home base for participating in island adventures, exploring the local attractions or just relaxing and enjoying island time. New on-site owners in 2020 changed the name to The Atlantic Inn and extensively renovated the inn to its former glory but with the addition of crisp, clean modern details. Fall is also a busy season on Hatteras Island because of the excellent fishing. The summer season is when rates are at their highest, corresponding with the most demand for accommodations. Select establishments close in the winter, so always call ahead if that’s when you’re planning your visit. Hatteras hotels and campgrounds offer year-round accommodation options on the island. RV travelers seeking full hookups, swimming pools, game rooms, planned activities and the camaraderie of the RV lifestyle will not be disappointed with the Hatteras Island camping resorts. Campers with their tent or trailer in tow will enjoy the no-frills National Park Service campgrounds at Buxton and Frisco or some of the smaller campgrounds. There are more than a dozen campgrounds dotting Hatteras Island, from simple mom-and-pop establishments to full-blown resort-like camping experiences. While some choose to stay in a Cape Hatteras hotel, it’s worth mentioning that camping on the island is an ever-popular move. You can expect to find a range of amenities in the newer Cape Hatteras hotels and motels, including a few bed and breakfast inns. They’re favored by fishermen, families on a budget and people who long for the simplicity of earlier times. Hatteras Island hotels are clean and comfortable and updated with new amenities, but they are infused with the flavor of Cape Hatteras hotels of yesteryear. Cape Hatteras has about a dozen classic, old-school motels, some of which have been serving vacationers since the 1950s and 60s. There’s a wide variety of Cape Hatteras hotels, so you’ll certainly find something to suit your taste.
